Sawtooth 2010 Riesling strikes gold in Ray

Landmark Seattle restaurant announces competition winners

WINNERS OF RAY’S BOATHOUSE 25th ANNUAL
RETROSPECTIVE OF NORTHWEST WINES COMPETITION ANNOUNCED

Seattle, Washington – Every January, Ray’s Boathouse Restaurant on Shilshole Bay in Seattle, Washington conducts its Retrospective of Northwest Wines Competition. Now in its 25th year, this wine-lover’s event has once again uncovered hidden gems from up-and-coming wineries and confirmed the well-deserved praise of established wineries. And for the first time, two wineries captured the gold in two categories! Sawtooth Winery’s 2010 Riesling was one of the gold-striking wines in the competition.

On January 9-10, 2012, Ray’s assembled a panel of judges consisting of sommeliers, wine writers and local wine experts to blind-taste Northwest wines released in 2011. The judges meticulously evaluated the wines for characteristics such as nose, palate, finish and other notable qualities. Each judge assigned a numerical score based on their evaluation.

The wines were submitted for judging by the winemakers and their distributors. All Washington, Oregon and Idaho wineries were eligible to participate and 351 entries were received. The categories for entry were Pinot Gris, Dry Single Varietal Whites, Aromatic Single Varietal Whites, White Blends, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot, Red Blends, Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Single Varietal Reds, and Dessert.

The Gold Winners will be featured on our wine list through May 2012, based on availability. Ray’s will host a celebration dinner with an artfully crafted menu created by Ray’s Executive Chef Wayne A. Johnson and presented in Ray’s waterfront private dining room with the winning winemakers in attendance. The date of the dinner will be announced later.
