Another coup for Snake River Valley and Idaho wine, Sawtooth Estate Winery’s 91-point-scoring 2011 Syrah made an encore appearance in the Feb. 2014 issue of Wine & Spirits, this time ranked in as a “Year’s Best US Syrah.”
Over the past 12 months, the magazine’s blind panels tasted more than 234 new-release Syrahs. Of that, 31 were rated as exceptional with scores exceeding 90 points, and only 13 were named Best Buys. At $15 and a 91-point-score, Sawtooth’s 2011 Syrah had it all, and was the only Idaho Syrah on the list.
Sawtooth Estate Winery features wines made in the Snake River Valley from its surrounding 70-acre Sawtooth Vineyard, where more than a dozen varieties proliferate, from aromatic whites to Rhones and Spanish reds. The vineyard’s 3,000-foot elevation, volcanic ash-loam soils, and diurnal swing give the grapes a distinct character.
