The Best Wines for Thanksgiving Dinner  – by Barnaby Hughes, Gayot.com

GAYOT’s list of Top 10 Thanksgiving Wines features bottles exclusively produced in the U.S., from New York to California with plenty in-between. Most of our selections are priced at $20 or less and as low as $8, so uncork a few and celebrate these distinctively American vintages as a foil for your traditional dinner of turkey with all the trimmings.

Sawtooth 2011 Syrah Snake River Valley, Idaho (#8)
Named for the jagged mountains that overshadow the region, Sawtooth is one of a growing number of wineries in the Snake River Valley, upstream from Washington’s more famous Columbia Valley. The 2011 Syrah is an easy-drinking red wine showing characteristic dark fruit flavors, supple tannins and a spicy finish. $15/750ml

Chocolate Shop NV Chocolate Strawberry Red Wine (#10)
Many wines have naturally occurring chocolate or strawberry flavors, but few actually have such flavors added to them. This Chocolate Strawberry offering is made by infusing red wine with natural chocolate and strawberry flavors. The result tastes more like strawberry than chocolate, giving the wine a pleasant juiciness that lacks the sometimes overpowering richness of strictly chocolate wines. Save this one for dessert! $8/375ml
