‘Chocolate Shop’ wine blends sweet with smooth
If you have a sweet tooth but prefer a smooth finish to your meal, pour a glass of Chocolate Shop’s chocolate-flavored red wines.
Gary’s Wine & Marketplace in Wayne, Bernardsville and Madison started stocking the chocolate company’s cabernet-dominant chocolate-flavored wines in April 2011, and sold 120 bottles in the last six months. In December, the stores saw a huge spike and sold 72 bottles that month alone.
“If you’re looking for something different and you like chocolate, then it’s definitely worth trying,” founder Gary Fisch said.
It’s a “fun wine” whose sweetness often appeals to women in their 30s and 40s, Fisch said. He wouldn’t classify it as a dessert wine, but said it tastes almost like a milkshake.
Varieties include the chocolate red, sparkling chocolate red, chocolate strawberry and crème de cocoa. The still wines are $15; the sparkling $20. Available at Gary’s Wine & Marketplace, 1308 Route 23 north, Wayne, 973-633-3900, and Wine Country Lyndhurst, 419 Valley Brook Ave.,Lyndhurst, 201- 939-7800.
