Smasne Cellars of Prosser won the Best of Show award Saturday at the 35th annual Tri-Cities Wine Festival in Kennewick for its 2010 Upland Vineyard Mourvedre.
The award, an original wall sculpture by Tri-City artist Ted Neth, was presented during the public tasting Saturday at the Three Rivers Convention Center in Kennewick.
Winemaker Robert Smasne won Best of Show in 2011 for his 2007 Block #3 Syrah.
All of his 24 entries won medals this year, including a double gold for the 2010 Grenache, a unanimous choice of all five judges. His other honors included Best of Varietal for his 2011 Verhey Vineyards Malbec and his 2011 Viognier.
Best of Varietals also were awarded to Apex Cellars of Prosser for its 2010 Merlot and 2011 Catalyst Red Blend. Silvers went to Apex’s 2012 Sauvignon Blanc
and 2011 Tempranillo.
Willow Crest received gold for its 2011 Rockin’ L Red, and silvers for its 2012 Estate Grown Pinot Gris, 2012 Estate Grown Riesling, 2012 Muscat Canelli.
