    Very deep purple-black in color, the 2012 The Davey Estate Shiraz reveals a nose of blackberry and black cherry compote highlighted by hints of blueberry preserves, Chinese five spice, incense and smoky bacon. Full-bodied and packed with blackberry and Asian spice flavors, it is seamlessly structured with medium-firm, rounded tannins and just enough acidity to lift through the finish with very good length. Drink it now to 2020+.

    On the wine:

    The Shingleback 2010 Davey Estate Shiraz has pronounced notes of warm blackberries and blueberries over cedar, violets and fertile loam plus subtle hints of Mediterranean herbs and game. The palate reveals a good concentration of ripe blackberry flavors with enlivening acid and a medium-firm level of fine grained tannins, finishing long. Approachable now, it should drink well to 2018+.
    On the winery:
    This winery has concurrently gone through a period of expansion and improvement in recent years which is truly commendable. The entry level Red Knot label offers exceedingly good value in my book, managing to produce delicious, well-balanced and very drinkable wines that truly express the McLaren Vale region, all at an incredible price point.

    tasting notes

    Deep red with purple hues. Brooding blackberry aromas with hints of white pepper and sweet toasted oak entice. Flavours of dark berries burst across the palate, complemented by notes of chocolate and shots of espresso. A full-bodied wine with a richly textured structure and long, lingering finish.
