This is Gruet's tete de cuvee. Aged en tirage for six years, it shows a nose of pear tart and brioche. It's boldly flavored with tangy acidity and remains fresh despite its age. The fruit is ripe and expressive, and the wine is very much New World in style. This is not a sipping wine; it definitely needs a nice roast chicken or even pork roast to show its best. Made from free-run juice of its estate's oldest Chardonnay vines.
Gruet Gilbert Grande Reserve Vintage 2012 is bright gold in color with a fine mousse texture and a bevy of small bubbles. Aromas of baked apple and brioche lead to flavors of creamy pear. A long, lingering, toasted almond kiss on the finish completes this extraordinary vintage sparkler.
